Day 1 - Team Kili drove from Aruha, Tanzania to the Machame Gate at approximately 6000 feet. Don't forget to have lots of small bills because everyone you meet expects a tip (for just about doing anything). "Get your hands OFF MY LUGAGE!". American's are seen to have deep pockets. The constant "hounding" got fairly irritating by the end of our 3 weeks in Africa. Our destination for day #1 was Machame Camp at 10,000 feet. There were many other teams from Europe on this route. I only saw one other American - a gentlemen from West Seattle (believe it or not). We acsended up through a rain forest - fortunately, it did not rain on us but there was plenty of mud.
MORE TO COME..STAY TUNED..
